Scandinavian Bride Customs

When you are getting married in Scandinavia, it’s important to pay attention to some of the quirkier practices. We asked bridal manager Mariella Gink to offer us the scoop on some of Sweden’s exclusive customs.

Before couples in Viking days, the bride do take a bath to cleanse herself and figuratively clean away her maidenhood. Then she would leap into chilly water to symbolize the changeover into femininity. Her hair was moreover a big deal. She would weave it into complex braids to symbolize her gender, and the more complex her tresses were, the better it boded for the pair. The brides would utilize a tunic and trousers made of wool or fabric. They had also bring their weapons.

In Norse culture, it was common for people to give each of their customers home with items. This is a convention that carries on today. It is common to see a gift registry at Swedish norwegian blonde brides ceremonies, but it’s not the rule to obtain huge monetary accomplishments, as most people can afford to get themselves a present.

After the ceremony, it’s time to enjoy! Swedish marriages are known for their longer, complex supper factions. The hour may contain from eight to 12 statements, screenings of movies from the bachelor and bachelorette parties, games and songs. A friend of the couple is usually designated master of ceremonies to coordinate all the entertainment.

Another quirky Scandinavian wedding tradition is that whenever the groom or bride leaves a room for any reason, other men will line up to kiss them. This is one of our favorite things to capture on camera as a photographer because it’s so funny!
